On the Bench: 1/32 Wingnut Wings Sopwith Pup RNAS

Now that the Mosquito is off the bench, it’s time to turn my attention to a project that scares the bejesus out of me: Wingnut Wings’ Sopwith Pup.

Fun Aside: Wingnut Wings was actually started by Peter Jackson. Yeah, the Lord of the Rings guy. While strictly limited to 1/32 World War I aircraft, Wingnut Wings makes some gorgeous kits and has both the best website and best instructions of any manufacturer I’ve encountered.

How can such a dinky and adorably-named aircraft terrify me?

One word: biplane.

See, biplanes typically have two features you don’t find on later aircraft, features that are rather hard to replicate in scale.

These features? Natural wood and rigging lines.

These two challenges have freaked me out for so long that I’ve never attempted a biplane, but I figure it’s time to rectify that.

Stay tuned. This should be a fun, if challenging, build!
